The Pro X is a different class of machine, not a trim level. Seattle Coffee Gear lists the Silvia at $995 with a single 0.3 L brass boiler, no PID, and a 3 minute 30 second heat up, and the Silvia Pro X at $2,195 with a 1 L steam boiler plus a 300 ml brew boiler, dedicated brew and steam PIDs, adjustable low-pressure preinfusion, and a 15 minute warm up. Both use a 58mm portafilter and a 2 L tank. You are paying $1,200 for temperature control and simultaneous steaming.

Temperature surfing versus a PID
The base Silvia has one small brass boiler and a thermostat, which means brew temperature drifts through a cycle and experienced owners learn to time their shot to a particular point in that cycle. It works, it is a real skill, and it is also a chore you repeat every morning forever. A PID holds the temperature instead, which removes the ritual and makes shot to shot repeatability much easier. Rancilio sells a PID version of the base Silvia at $1,199 if that is the only thing you want.

Dual boiler is a workflow change, not a taste change
On a single boiler machine you brew, then flip to steam, then wait for the boiler to climb, then steam, then wait for it to cool before the next shot. On the Pro X the 300 ml brew boiler and the 1 L steam boiler run at once, so you pull a shot and steam milk without a pause. Making one flat white, that saves a minute. Making four in a row for guests, it is the difference between a relaxed round and a queue. Note the tradeoff at the other end: the Pro X wants 15 minutes to warm up against 3 minutes 30 for the Silvia.
Which one is the right buy
Buy the Silvia if you make one or two milk drinks a day, you like a mechanical machine, and $995 is the ceiling. Buy the Pro X if you make several milk drinks back to back, you want preinfusion and temperature you can dial, and the counter can take a 16.5 inch depth. Do not buy the Pro X hoping it will fix bad grinding: at this level the grinder is usually the limiting factor, not the machine. For that, start at best burr grinder under 500.
