SCA certified coffee makers: the current list and what certification means

As an Amazon Associate, Barista Life earns from qualifying purchases.

The Specialty Coffee Association maintains a public list of home brewers that pass its Certified Home Brewer program, and the current list at sca.coffee includes machines from GE Profile, Cafe Appliances, OXO, Braun, Mr. Coffee, Zwilling, Fellow, KRUPS, and Breville. Certification means the brewer hits the SCA's standards for brewing performance in testing, which in practice means proper water temperature and even extraction without babysitting.

What certification actually tests

The program verifies that a brewer meets SCA brewing standards in evaluation: correct brew temperature held through the cycle, appropriate brew time, and even saturation of the grounds. Those are the mechanical preconditions of the Golden Cup style targets that manual brewers chase with kettles and timers. A certified machine automates the physics; it cannot fix stale beans or a bad grind, which still decide most bad pots.

Reading the list like a buyer

Two patterns stand out in the current list. First, podless single serve functions appear across the 2023 to 2025 certifications: makers have accepted that people want one good cup without a pod. Second, the 2026 class brings automation into the program, with the Cosori Juni automatic pour over and wifi voice-to-brew Cafe drip models passing the same tests. Missing names matter too: machines certified under earlier versions of the program do not automatically appear on the current page, so a brewer absent here is not necessarily a brewer that failed. Check the SCA page before assuming either way.

Do you need a certified machine?

No, and the SCA does not claim you do. Certification removes risk: any machine on the list will not be the reason your coffee is bad. Several well loved brewers live off-list, and a $40 machine plus good technique can outperform a neglected certified one. But if you are spending real money on a drip machine and do not want to research reviews for a week, the list above is the shortcut; pair it with the grind and brew guide or the Fellow Aiden review for the standouts.

FAQ

What does SCA certified mean on a coffee maker? The brewer passed the Specialty Coffee Association's Certified Home Brewer evaluation, which tests brew temperature, timing, and even saturation. It is a performance badge for the machine's physics, not a guarantee of good coffee from bad beans.

Which coffee makers are currently SCA certified? The current sca.coffee list includes the GE Profile Smart Grind and Brew, Cafe Specialty models, OXO Brew 8 and 12-Cup, Braun MultiServe Plus, Mr. Coffee Perfect Brew, Zwilling Enfinigy, Fellow Aiden, KRUPS Blooming Essential, Aarke, Lotus Professional Top Drip, Breville Luxe Brewer, Cosori Juni, and Kismile Precision Drip.

Is a Moccamaster SCA certified? Moccamaster brewers do not appear on the SCA's current certified home brewer page, which lists machines certified from 2023 onward. Machines certified under earlier program versions are not automatically shown, so check sca.coffee for the current state.
