The classic Starbucks Doubleshot Espresso & Cream can (6.5 oz) has 120mg of caffeine, straight from PepsiCo's official product facts page. That is the small gold can you see at gas station registers. The bigger Doubleshot Energy cans and the in-store Doubleshot on Ice both carry more, and the Energy line just got a serious caffeine bump, so the number on your can depends on when it was made. Full breakdown below.
Three different drinks share one name
"Doubleshot" is one of the most confusing labels in the Starbucks lineup because it covers three completely different products:
The 6.5 oz espresso can. Brewed espresso, milk, and sugar in a tiny can. This is the original Doubleshot, made under the PepsiCo partnership. 120mg of caffeine in the standard Espresso & Cream, per PepsiCo's label data. The Light version runs slightly lower at 115mg and the Cubano slightly higher at 130 to 135mg, per Caffeine Informer.
The 15 oz Doubleshot Energy can. Coffee plus milk plus guarana, ginseng, and B vitamins. For years this was labeled at 135mg per can across all flavors, and PepsiCo's product facts page for the Mocha still shows that figure. But current cans on shelves are marketed at 225mg of caffeine, printed right in the product name at major retailers. If you have a can in hand, trust the label on that can over anything online, including this page.
The in-store Doubleshot on Ice. Espresso shots shaken with ice, a little classic syrup, and a splash of milk, built at the bar. Because it is made with straight shots, it out-caffeinates both cans at grande size and up. Per Coffee at Three's compiled Starbucks caffeine list, a tall has 150mg, a grande 225mg, and a venti 375mg.
If you want the cans without a gas station run, they are easy to find by the 12-pack on Amazon.

The per-ounce math is the interesting part. The little espresso can packs about 18mg per ounce, which is stronger ounce for ounce than either Energy version. The old 135mg Energy formula worked out to 9mg per ounce, weaker than most drip coffee. The 225mg update brings it to 15mg per ounce, which finally makes it compete with actual energy drinks. A venti Doubleshot on Ice is the heavyweight of the whole family, and at 375mg it is closing in on the FDA's daily reference point all by itself.
For context, the FDA cites 400mg of caffeine a day as an amount generally not associated with negative effects in healthy adults. How caffeine affects you depends on your own tolerance and health, so treat these numbers as information, not advice.

FAQ
Is the 6.5 oz Doubleshot can really equal to two espresso shots? Close but not quite. The can has 120mg, while Caffeine Informer puts a double espresso ordered at a Starbucks bar at roughly 150mg. So the can lands a bit under a true doubleshot from the espresso machine.
Why do some sources say Doubleshot Energy has 135mg and others say 225mg? The line was relabeled. PepsiCo's product facts pages still list 135mg per 15 oz can, but current retail cans are sold with 225mg printed on them. Read the can you are actually holding, because both versions have been in circulation.
Which Doubleshot has the most caffeine? The venti Doubleshot on Ice made in store, at 375mg. Among cans, the current 225mg Doubleshot Energy is the strongest, and the small espresso cans top out around 130 to 135mg for the Cubano.
