Baratza grinder warranty guide: one year US, two years UK, freight both ways

As an Amazon Associate, Barista Life earns from qualifying purchases.

Baratza covers its grinders for 1 year from the original date of purchase in the US and Canada, parts and labor, and pays ground freight both ways inside those two countries. The Forte AP and Forte BG are the exception: 1 year or 50 hours of cumulative motor run time, whichever comes first. In the UK and Europe the same grinders get 2 years. Refurbished grinders bought and used in the US get 1 year.

What the warranty covers

Baratza's wording is unusually plain: "Limited Warranty for Baratza Grinders is 1 year from the original date of purchase. This warranty covers all defects in materials and workmanship (parts and labor) including free ground transportation to and from our repair facility within the US and Canada." Paying the freight both ways is rare in this category and worth knowing, because it makes a Baratza repair genuinely free rather than free-minus-postage.

What voids it

Five things, named: "This warranty does not apply to improper use, lack of cleaning, abuse, normal wear and tear, lack of proper adjustment, foreign objects (stones, screws, etc.) in the beans, or uses outside the intended use of grinding whole roasted coffee beans." That last clause is the one people trip over. Grinding spices, sugar, rice or anything that is not whole roasted coffee is outside intended use.

Lack of cleaning is also a real exclusion, not boilerplate. Burr chambers pack with oily fines and the motor works harder; keeping it clean is both a performance and a coverage question. Our walkthrough is in how to clean a coffee grinder.

How to register and how to claim

Baratza asks for two things before you contact them: "1) Proof of date of purchase. 2) Model and serial number (located on the bottom of the grinder)." Then email support@baratza.com or call 425-641-1245. Baratza will "contact you to determine the problem, and see if it can be fixed quickly and easily," which in practice means they will try to talk you through a part swap first, because most Baratza faults are user-serviceable by design.

If your grinder left the US or Canada, the deal changes: you get parts only for the year, you pay the freight and duties on those parts, and you provide the labor.

The parts Baratza expects you to replace yourself

Burrs are wear items on every grinder and excluded as normal wear and tear.
