The Breville Oracle does not throw numbered error codes. It writes words on the LCD, and Breville lists seven of them in the instruction book: MANUAL means the steam lever is in the manual position and the machine will not reach operating temperature, FILL TANK means low water, CLEAN ME! means 200 extractions since the last cleaning cycle, HEATING means it is coming up to temperature or dropped too far during use, LOCK HOPPER means the bean hopper is not seated and locked, OVERHEAT PLEASE WAIT means the grinder has been run too hard and needs to cool, and CHANGE FILTER means the water filter is due. The Oracle Touch and Oracle Jet say the same things in pop-up messages on the touchscreen instead.

Two of these are not faults at all
HEATING and OVERHEAT PLEASE WAIT are the machine protecting itself, and Breville describes both as normal states rather than errors. HEATING appears whenever the temperature drops excessively during use, which is what happens when you pull four drinks in a row. OVERHEAT PLEASE WAIT is the grinder motor cooling down after heavy use, and the auto grind function stays locked out until it does, with three beeps if you push the point. Neither one calls for a repair, and the troubleshooting page in the book says so: for an alert on the LCD, see the alerts list first, and only call Breville support if the problem persists.
CHANGE FILTER is really a water hardness setting
The interval behind the CHANGE FILTER alert is not fixed. Breville ties it to the hardness value you entered when you set the machine up, Hrd1 through Hrd5, so a machine set to Hrd1 in soft-water Seattle will ask far less often than one set to Hrd4 in Phoenix. On the Oracle Touch, Breville goes further and recommends changing to a different water source altogether if your test comes back at hardness 4 or 5. Getting it wrong in the soft direction is what produces a scaled boiler on a machine that never asked to be descaled.
