On a De'Longhi Dinamica, a flashing water tank light means the tank is low and a steady one means the tank is missing or not seated; a flashing grounds light means the grounds container is full and a steady one means it was not put back; a flashing descale light means the descale cycle is due; and the general alarm light steady on means the inside of the machine is very dirty, while the general alarm flashing with the tank light means the water circuit is empty and needs purging through the steam dial. The Dinamica has one general alarm light doing four jobs
This is why the machine feels cryptic. There is a single general alarm icon on the touch panel, and its meaning changes with what else is lit and whether it is steady or flashing: on its own and steady it is a dirty interior, flashing alongside the tank light it is an empty water circuit, flashing alongside a coffee icon it is a grind that is choking the shot. Read the pair, not the icon. The same logic runs through the rest of the panel, where De'Longhi uses steady for "something is missing or not seated" and flashing for "something is empty, full, or due."
The mistake people make
Treating a slow, dripping shot as a pump problem. De'Longhi lists it as a grind fault first, with a specific correction: one click clockwise toward 7 while the grinder is running, then judge after two more coffees, because the change only shows up once the old grind clears the burrs. The second most common miss is a descale light that will not clear, which happens when the cycle is stopped early or the rinses are skipped. De'Longhi's own note says the machine needs the full procedure, and the counter does not reset on a partial run. If the light returns quickly after a completed cycle, your water is the reason, and the fix is better brewing water or a proper descaler on a schedule rather than more cycles. Match the light on your own panel to your own manual, because the icon set changes across the Dinamica range.
