Gaggia espresso machine warranty guide: one year, and what it leaves out

As an Amazon Associate, Barista Life earns from qualifying purchases.

Gaggia North America, the US distributor, covers all new Gaggia espresso machines and grinders with a one-year parts and labor warranty. It does not cover shipping to the service center, it does not cover accessory or normal wear parts such as gaskets, portafilter handles, baskets and pannarello wands, and a shipping and handling fee is added to every warranty replacement part Gaggia NA sends out.

The five business day clock nobody reads

Gaggia NA sets a hard reporting window on both shipping damage and dead-on-arrival machines. On damage: "If you notice any damage from shipping, please call us at 888-389-4123 to report the damage and DO NOT use the machine. You must contact us within 5 business days." On function: "If you believe your machine is having functional problems, you must contact our Technical Services department at 888-389-4123 within 5 business days from the date you receive the merchandise." Unbox and pull a shot the week the machine lands, not the month after.

Gaggia NA also notes that most machines it sells are tested at the factory, so "you might find residual coffee or water on/in new machines." That is not a used machine and not a fault.

How to register

Gaggia NA asks you to register directly with them: "To ensure we can provide you with the best customer service, we strongly suggest registering your product with us. Doing this now will ensure that your machine's warranty is activated for if you ever need it." The form is the Register your Gaggia Product page linked in Sources. Note the difference from Breville here, which states plainly that registration is not required. Gaggia NA frames registration as what activates the warranty, so do it.

How to make a claim

Call Technical Services on 888-389-4123 or email contact@gaggia-usa.com, Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm Eastern. Have the machine model and your part numbers ready: Gaggia NA says "if calling to order please have manual and part number ready," and that parts ordered online, by phone or by email are final sale.

What voids it

The only voiding clause Gaggia NA states outright applies to commercial equipment: "When purchasing commercial equipment through Gaggia NA that requires professional installation, all manufacturers' recommendations for proper installation must be followed. In the event that the manufacturer's guidelines are not followed, the product warranty will be void." For home machines Gaggia NA publishes exclusions (wear parts, shipping) rather than a list of voiding acts, so we are not going to invent one.

The Gaggia faults that are yours, not Gaggia's

Gaskets and baskets are named exclusions, and a Gaggia Classic that will not build pressure is usually one of them. Start here: not building pressure, replacing the group gasket, Gaggia error codes, and Classic Pro replacement parts.

Buy the wear parts before you need them

Gaggia excludes exactly the parts that fail first, so keep spares.
