Breville espresso machine warranty guide: length by model, claims, exclusions

As an Amazon Associate, Barista Life earns from qualifying purchases.

Breville's US warranty length is set per model, not per brand: the Barista Express (BES870), the Bambino (BES450) and the Smart Grinder Pro (BCG820) each carry a 1 year limited warranty, while the Bambino Plus, Barista Pro, Barista Touch, Dual Boiler, Oracle and Precision Brewer each carry 2 years. Breville's own warranty page never states a length at all. The number lives on each product page, and the table below is every espresso and coffee model we cover.

Breville warranty length by model

Model Code Warranty stated by Breville
Bambino BES450 1 Year Limited Warranty
Bambino Plus BES500 2 Year Limited Warranty
Barista Express BES870 1 Year Limited Warranty
Barista Pro BES878 2 Year Limited Warranty
Barista Touch BES880 2 Year Warranty
Dual Boiler BES920 2 Year Warranty
Oracle BES980 2 Year Warranty
Smart Grinder Pro BCG820 1 Year Limited Warranty
Precision Brewer BDC450 2 Year Limited Warranty

Values read from the Warranty specification on each model's page at breville.com on 18 August 2026. Links to all nine pages are in the Sources block below. Breville lists some as 2 Year Limited Warranty and some as 2 Year Warranty; the underlying terms document is the same one for all of them.

What the warranty covers

Breville describes it as a "limited non-transferable product warranty (the warranty) from the date of purchase, or if you are a resident of California, from the date of delivery, of the subject product against defects in product materials or workmanship" (Breville warranty terms). Within the period Breville can repair with new or refurbished parts, replace the product with a new or refurbished one, reimburse the original purchase price, or replace defective parts.

One clause is worth knowing before a second failure: repaired or replaced products are "warranted by Breville for the balance of the original warranty period or ninety (90) days from the date of warranty service, whichever is longer." A repair near the end of year two therefore buys you 90 days, not a fresh term.

Registration is not required, and it is not proof of purchase

This is the single most misreported thing about Breville warranties. The terms say: "Product registration with Breville, while appreciated, is not required to activate any warranty and is not a substitute for a proof of purchase." What Breville does require is proof of purchase, defined as "an original or copy of the retailer sales receipt for the product purchased or the retailer product purchase invoice, showing the Product model number, payment and the date of the purchase." Keep the receipt. Registering is a convenience, not a condition.

How to make a claim

Breville leads its claim process with "DO NOT RETURN PRODUCT TO THE STORE" and then lists five steps: find the model number, batch code (a 3 or 4 digit number) and serial number on the sticker under or behind the product; have the original or a copy of the sales receipt; contact Breville Consumer Support; accept the pre-paid shipping label Breville sends if the product qualifies; and use that label or a traceable, insured service, because Breville "is not responsible for any damage while a product is in transit." Breville puts typical turnaround at up to 10 business days plus shipping.

What voids it

The limitations section is long. The parts that catch real owners:

  • Commercial use. The warranty "is not applicable to any purchase of a product for commercial use (such as in a hotel, office, restaurant, or other business capacity)."
  • Normal wear. Products needing maintenance or replacement due to "normal wear and tear, corrosion, rust, stain, age" are excluded, as is damage from use inconsistent with the instruction manual.
  • Unauthorized repair or parts. Defects caused by alteration, modification or repair by anyone Breville has not authorized are excluded.
  • Grey market. Products "not purchased from Breville or through a Breville-authorized distributor or product reseller" are excluded, with eBay and unauthorized e-commerce sites named directly.
  • Removed identifiers. Products where the model, serial number or date code has been "removed, replaced, altered or rendered illegible" are excluded.
  • Cosmetic damage, wrong voltage, acts of nature, and returns not sent with a Breville shipping label that get lost or damaged in transit.

Fix it first: the faults that are not warranty jobs

Most Breville callouts are maintenance, not defects, and a maintenance fault is excluded anyway. Work through the machine before you open a claim: Barista Express troubleshooting covers pressure and pump complaints, Oracle error messages decodes the display, descaling and water filter replacement handle the scale problems that cause most of them, and replacement parts lists the consumables no warranty covers.

The parts a warranty was never going to cover

Gaskets, baskets, filters and cleaning consumables are wear items on every brand's exclusion list. They are also cheap.
